MPS: Meet Nekiah

Embrace our similarities
and celebrate our differences.

Disclaimer Mode Plus Series (MPS):
These series aime to portray all kind of women, whatever their body type, age, social status or race. I chose this title because I wanted to show particularly women within the plus size community. But foremost I want to show the diversity of feminine beauty. Yes, I do target the full figured woman, but it doesn't mean only full figured women are beautiful. To my belief: we are all beautiful, no matter our size, race, age or cultural background. I hope by featuring different types of women, young or old, we as a blogging (plus size) community will not exclude anyone.

Meet Nekiah

When I first came across her blog, I was instantly drawn
to her individualistic style.
And when I read her story

(see the about section on her blog), I wanted to see more.

Nekiah's outfits shows us that style and budget can go
hand in hand. Whenever I want a dosis of creativity,
I hop on over to see what she masterminded.
Nekiah does fashion with her heart and you feel it.
Stay along and meet this fabulous beauty.

Tell us something about you (for example: age/profession/hobbies etc...).
I am a 35 yr. (yes I know I’m old) old Executive Administrative Assistant for a large well known company. I am also the wife of a minister who is currently getting his Master’s of Theology degree. I have one 9 yr. old daughter who keeps me very busy with all of her activities (ice skating, ballet folklorico, theatre and piano)!! I love to read, interior decorate, thrift and spend time with my family and look at A-ROD’s butt!! I am a huge New York Yankees fan!!
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging for me. I was dealing with insecurities about my weight. It was pretty bad. I did not have any pictures of myself since 2001!! A lot of my friends would talk about their blogs (which I had never heard of) so I decided to go on-line and see what this blogging thing was all about and that is how I came up with the idea to start my blog.

Do you have (personal) fashion rules? Yes/no? Why?
I do not do what everyone else does. I try and stay on trend but I am not one of those people that just because baby doll dresses are in style...I go out and buy one! I buy ONLY what I feel looks good on me and what I am comfortable wearing. I am a strong believer that every style is not for everybody! I think that when you wear things that you are not comfortable in..it shows! Part of being fashionable is being confident. I can’t pull off that confidence if I am uncomfortable.

Who is your fashion muse? Why?
I love Carolina Herrera. I think that her designs are so feminine, elegant and classy. I so want to be her when I grow up! I am also a huge fan of Victoria Beckham. Victoria can make a pair of jeans look like couture with all of her high end accessories!

If you could be any accessory item, which one would you be? Why?
I know a lot of people LOVE shoes and think that they make the outfit. To be honest shoes are not the 1st thing that I notice. Unless they are some crazy pattern or color I barely notice peoples shoes at all. I always look at the face. I am one of those people that always looks people in the eye so I tend to concentrate on the face and then I look from the waist up. I guess if I could be any accessory I would be a beautiful pair of chandelier earrings or a fabulous St. John belt!!

What is your message for women/girls struggling with their body image?
First I would say that I know what you are going through because I have been there! I think that we women spend too much time comparing ourselves to other women. We are our own worst critics! Life is about choices. You can choose to live your life concentrating on what this world deems beautiful (size 0 , 5’ 10” tall, perfect skin, hair and teeth) or you can choose to live your life with the mind set that you are going to take what God gave you and work it!! I love these scriptures:

1 Peter 3: 3-4 –
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

1 Samuel 16: 7 -
Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.

In closing I want to say that my point is to express that NO MATTER what size you are..
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. God made some thin and others thick but know that however he made you.....you are PERFECT in his sight. It is important for me to add that I love fashion but it does not define me. Putting together outfits is a fun hobby for me and a way to express my creative side but it is most def not my lifestyle!

Thank you Nekiah for participating.
Show this fashionable beauty some love
